You’ll begin your journey departing Fes early in the morning, heading south through the scenic Middle Atlas Mountains. Along the way, you’ll pass through Alpine-style mountain towns, lush pine forests, and picturesque Berber villages, stopping to take in views of the breathtaking landscape.
Continuing past the palm-filled Ziz Valley and through the city of Errachidia, the scenery dramatically transitions into desert landscapes. By late afternoon, you’ll arrive at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga, where you’ll spend your first night in a comfortable hotel or riad overlooking the golden sands.
You’ll spend the morning and afternoon discovering the rich culture and surroundings of the Merzouga region. Highlights include visiting Khamlia village to listen to traditional Gnawa music, exploring desert oases, and meeting local families to learn about life in the Sahara over a traditional meal.
In the late afternoon, you’ll mount camels for an unforgettable trek across the dunes while watching the desert sunset. Wake up early to catch a breathtaking desert sunrise over the dunes before returning to the village for breakfast. You’ll then depart the desert and travel west toward the town of Tinghir and the nearby Todra Gorges, famous for their towering 300-meter-high vertical limestone cliffs.
After walking through the spectacular gorge and alongside the riverbed, you’ll continue along the “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs” into the picturesque Dades Valley. You’ll stop to admire unique geological formations like the “Monkey Fingers” rock structures before checking into your riad nestled in the valley for dinner and an overnight stay
After breakfast, you’ll travel through the Rose Valley toward Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa,” where you can stop to see the famous film studios or Kasbah Taourirt. You’ll then visit the famous UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Benhaddou, an iconic fortified village featured in numerous historical movies and TV series.
After exploring the kasbah and having lunch, you’ll cross the High Atlas Mountains via the winding Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260m elevation), taking in sweeping mountain panoramas and views of traditional mud-brick Berber villages. You’ll arrive in Marrakech by early evening, concluding your 4-day tour.
