Morocco tour From Marrakech in 5 days

Day 1: Marrakech ⇢ High Atlas Mountains ⇢ Aït Benhaddou ⇢ Ouarzazate

The journey begins with a pick-up from your accommodation in Marrakech by your private driver. You will head toward the majestic High Atlas Mountains, climbing through the winding Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 meters / 7,415 feet). This route offers dramatic panoramic views of traditional Berber mud-brick villages clinging to the hillsides, with flexible stops along the way for coffee and photography.

Next, you will descend the eastern slopes to reach the historic Ksar of Aït Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its earthen clay architecture and its role as a backdrop for legendary films like Gladiator and The Mummy. You will have time to explore the narrow streets of the ancient Kasbah and enjoy a traditional lunch at a local restaurant.

Continuing past the breathtaking landscapes, you will arrive in Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa.” Here, you can visit the local cinema studios and the historic Taourirt Kasbah. The first day concludes with a check-in at a comfortable local hotel or riad, followed by a traditional Moroccan dinner.

Day 2: Ouarzazate ⇢ Skoura Oasis ⇢ Valley of Roses ⇢ Dades Valley

Following breakfast at your accommodation, you will depart from Ouarzazate along the famous “Road of 1001 Kasbahs” to reach the lush Skoura Oasis. A stop here allows you to explore the 17th-century Kasbah Amridil, a beautifully preserved fortress that reveals the historic secrets of oasis life and ancient subterranean irrigation systems.

The journey continues through the Valley of Roses (Kelaat M’gouna), a region world-famous for its organic Damascus rose production, cosmetics, and fragrant waters. You will have the opportunity to visit a local cooperative to see how the roses are distilled.

From there, you will drive directly into the dramatic Dades Valley, passing by the unique rock formations known as the “Monkey Fingers” and driving up the famous winding mountain hairpins. The day ends at your boutique hotel or guesthouse overlooking the canyon, where you will enjoy dinner and spend the night.

Day 3: Dades Valley ⇢ Todra Gorge ⇢ Tinjdad ⇢ Merzouga (The Sahara Desert)

After breakfast, you will travel eastward toward Tinghir to enter the spectacular Todra Gorge, where vertical limestone canyon walls tower 300 meters high. A refreshing, leisurely walk along the cool riverbed gives you a true sense of the canyon’s scale.

The route then takes you through changing desert landscapes and ancient palm groves, passing through the towns of Jorf and Tinjdad where you will pause for lunch and learn about the ancient Khettara underground canal systems.

You will arrive at the edge of the golden Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga, where the paved road ends and your authentic Sahara experience begins. You will switch from your vehicle to a camel caravan (or a private 4×4, depending on your preference) to trek deep into the undulating sand dunes. Your local guides will pause on a high crest so you can witness a breathtaking, color-shifting Saharan sunset in complete silence.

The trek brings you to an authentic desert camp nestled in the dunes, where you are welcomed with hot mint tea, followed by a delicious Moroccan dinner. The evening ends around a crackling campfire, listening to the rhythmic drumming and traditional songs of Berber musicians under a brilliant canopy of stars before sleeping in your private tent.

Day 4: Sahara Desert Exploration ⇢ Nomad Families & Gnawa Music

Waking up early is highly recommended to catch a magical Sahara sunrise over the silent dunes. After breakfast at the camp, the entire day is dedicated to exploring the hidden wonders of the desert environment in a private 4×4 vehicle. You will start by visiting nomadic families living in traditional tents behind the dunes, learning about their resilient lifestyle while sharing a cup of authentic mint tea.

Next, you will travel to the historic village of Khamlia to listen to the spiritual rhythms of Gnawa music and watch traditional dances, followed by a local lunch featuring Madfouna (the famous Berber stuffed pizza).

The exploration continues through ancient mineral mines and fossil sites, followed by a relaxing walk through the green Merzouga palm grove to understand desert agriculture. The afternoon concludes as you check into a comfortable hotel on the edge of the dunes, offering time to relax, swim, enjoy dinner, and spend the night.

Day 5: Merzouga ⇢ Ziz Valley ⇢ Midelt ⇢ Cedar Forest ⇢ Fes

Following breakfast, you will bid farewell to the desert and begin the journey north toward the intellectual capital of Fes. You will pass through Erfoud, a town famous worldwide for its fossils and dates, before driving through the breathtaking Ziz Valley. This spectacular route overlooks one of the largest palm groves in the world, providing incredible panoramic photo opportunities.

The drive continues into the Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping for lunch in the town of Midelt, which is famous for its apple orchards and views of the snow-capped mountain peaks.

From there, you will travel through the vast cedar forests of Azrou, stopping to observe and photograph the wild Barbary macaque monkeys in their natural habitat. You will also make a short stop in Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco” due to its clean alpine architecture.
