We will pick you up from your hotel, the airport, or the harbor to begin our 4-day journey from Tangier to Marrakech. We will drive through the scenic Rif Mountains, passing Tetouan before arriving in the iconic blue city of Chefchaouen. Enjoy free time to explore its charming, blue-and-white painted streets, visit the historic Medina, and see Ras El Ma, the refreshing mountain waterfall on the edge of town. After lunch at a local restaurant in Plaza Uta El-Hammam, we will head south across the green agricultural hills of northern Morocco, arriving in Fes by late afternoon for an overnight stay in a traditional Riad.
Depart early from Fes toward the Middle Atlas Mountains, stopping first in Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco” for its alpine architecture. Continue into the ancient cedar forest of Azrou to see the native Barbary macaques in their natural habitat. After stopping for lunch in Midelt, we descend through the dramatic Ziz Gorge and along the sweeping Ziz Valley, admiring miles of lush date palm oases. By late afternoon, we reach Erg Chebbi in Merzouga, where you will mount your camel for a trek across the golden dunes, watch a breathtaking Saharan sunset, and spend the night in a luxury desert camp with traditional music under the stars.
Wake up early to catch a stunning desert sunrise over the dunes before returning by camel or 4×4 for breakfast. We depart for Rissani to visit its lively traditional market, famous for spices and local handicrafts, then travel west toward Tinghir. Here, walk between the towering 300-meter red limestone cliffs of Todra Gorge, a natural paradise for rock climbers and hikers. Afterward, we continue through the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs into the picturesque Dades Valley, where we will stop to admire the unique “monkey fingers” rock formations before checking into your hotel in Boumalne Dades.
Our final day begins with a drive through Kelaat M’Gouna (the Rose Valley) and the Skoura palm groves to Ouarzazate, Morocco’s film capital, passing the historic Taourirt Kasbah. Next, we explore the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its earthen architecture and role in movies like Gladiator. After lunch, we cross the High Atlas Mountains via the winding Tizi n’Tichka pass (2,260m elevation), enjoying panoramic mountain views and stopping at authentic Berber villages.
