Conclude your trip with a breathtaking drive across the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi-n-Tichka pass, ending your journey in Marrakech.
The 5 days tour starts with an early pick-up from the airport or your accommodation in Fes. Then we drive south through Imouzzer to visit Ifrane, famous for its alpine-style architecture and cool climate—no wonder it is called the Switzerland of Morocco. Then we continue to the Cedar Forest, home to the wild Barbary Macaques. Feel free to feed them while wandering through the trees. Later, we drive to Midelt, where lunch will be served. We then head towards the Sahara desert, crossing the Tizi-n-Tilghmt pass and driving along the scenic Ziz Valley with its endless palm groves.
In the afternoon, we reach the golden dunes of Merzouga. Here, you switch to camels and trek across the sandy desert. A stop will be made on top of a high dune to enjoy a magical sunset. Afterwards, continue to your luxury desert camp, where you can enjoy traditional Berber drum music around the campfire under a starry sky. Dinner and overnight stay in the camp.
Waking up early is a must to contemplate the breathtaking sunrise over the desert dunes. Enjoy breakfast at the camp, then return on camels or 4×4 to Merzouga village. We dedicate this day to exploring the hidden gems of the desert region, from endless sand dunes to wild lakes and historic mines.
Firstly, we head off-road to visit an ancient eyeliner (Mifis) mine. Next, we visit local nomads in their handmade woven tents, learning about their unique way of life over a cup of traditional mint tea. Afterward, we head to Khamlia village, where you will enjoy soul-stirring Gnawa music and dance performances by musicians originating from Sub-Saharan Africa. After lunch, take a stroll around the Merzouga palm grove and visit Lake Merzouga if filled with water. Dinner and overnight at a hotel in Merzouga.
After breakfast, we leave the desert behind and head to Rissani, the ancient capital of Tafilalet and a famous commercial hub with its lively traditional souk. We wander through the market stalls before continuing our drive to Erfoud, where we stop to visit a workshop dedicated to ancient fossilized minerals.
Next, we drive through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad to reach the dramatic Todra Gorges. The course of the Todra river has carved out a grand canyon through the mountains, creating spectacular red cliff walls ideal for rock climbers. Free time for lunch and a walk through the gorges. Later, we head through the Dades Valley, passing the famous “Monkey Fingers” rock formations. Dinner and overnight in a hotel overlooking the Dades Valley.
Today, we continue our journey along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs. We pass through the scenic Rose Valley in Kalaat M’Gouna, renowned for its annual Rose Festival and local cosmetic products. From there, we drive towards Ouarzazate, known as the “Gateway to the Desert” and the Hollywood of Africa. We will visit the historic Kasbah Taourirt and the famous Atlas Film Studios, where iconic movies like Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia were filmed. Afterwards, we head to the renowned Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a magnificent fortified village that has served as a backdrop for numerous international film productions. Explore its narrow earthen alleys a
On the final day of our tour, we begin our drive toward Marrakech across the majestic High Atlas Mountains. We pass through picturesque Berber villages perched on the mountainsides and stop at various panoramic viewpoints along the route.
We will also make a stop at a local Argan oil cooperative to discover how local women produce traditional Argan oil and its various cosmetics. We then cross the winding Tizi-n-Tichka pass, reaching an altitude of 2,260 meters above sea level.
