Your driver/guide will meet you at 7:30 am right at the doors of your hotel or Riad in Marrakech to begin this epic journey. Our first major destination is the world-famous, UNESCO-listed Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou. To get there, we will wind our way through the dramatic peaks of the High Atlas Mountains via the breathtaking Tizi n’Tichka pass. The views from your window will look like a living painting—a stunning natural landscape of rugged valleys and ancient clay Berber villages. Don’t worry, we will make several panoramic stops along the way for you to take in the fresh mountain air, snap incredible photos, and stretch your legs.
Upon arrival at Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, we’ll step back in time to explore this spectacular fortified village, which has served as a filming location for Hollywood blockbusters like Gladiator and Game of Thrones. Continuing our journey, we will visit the Atlas Film Studios in Ouarzazate before breaking for a delicious local lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll drive through the lush oasis of Skoura and the fragrant Valley of the Roses, heading deep into Boumalne Dades. Upon arrival, we will check into our charming lodge, beautifully located right next to the stunning Dades Canyons, where you will enjoy a traditional home-cooked dinner.
After a hearty breakfast at your lodge, we’ll take a short drive to marvel at the famous “monkey fingers” rock formations and take in the sheer scale of the Dades Gorges. From there, our journey takes us toward the jaw-dropping Todra Gorges. Here, massive limestone cliff walls rise 300 meters above a narrow canyon floor where a fresh river flows year-round. You will have plenty of time to take a peaceful walk along the riverbank, meet local locals, and feel the cool canyon air.
After lunch near the gorges, we will continue driving East, passing through Erfoud—Morocco’s capital of fossils and dates—where the landscape begins to transform from rocky mountains to wide desert plains. By late afternoon, the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi in Merzouga will appear on the horizon. Here, you will swap your vehicle for friendly camels and embark on an unforgettable trek across the rolling sand waves. We will stop deep in the dunes so you can witness a legendary Sahara sunset, painting the sky in shades of orange and purple. Waking up early today is highly recommended to catch the magical sight of the sun rising over the silent Sahara dunes—a truly spiritual experience. After enjoying breakfast and a refreshing shower at the camp, we will bid farewell to the desert. You can choose to ride your camel back to the village or take a smooth $4 times 4$ ride. We will then hit the road north, driving through the striking Ziz Valley, where you will look down on one of the largest palm groves and green oases in all of Africa, creating a stunning contrast with the red desert soil.
We will climb into the Middle Atlas Mountains and stop in the high-altitude town of Midelt, famous for its apple orchards, to enjoy a relaxing lunch break. In the afternoon, our drive takes us through the ancient, towering Cedar Forest of Azrou, where we will stop to meet and feed the wild Barbary Macaque monkeys that live freely in the woods. Before reaching our final destination, we’ll stop for a stroll in Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco” because of its alpine architecture, clean streets, and cool climate. By early evening, we will descend the mountains and arrive in Fes, dropping you off at a beautiful, authentic Riad tucked away inside the ancient Medina.
At 9:30 am, your private, certified local city guide will meet you at your Riad to begin a deep, fascinating exploration of Fes el-Bali (the old medieval Medina). Fes is the spiritual and intellectual heart of Morocco, and walking through its labyrinth of over 9,000 narrow alleys feels like stepping into the Middle Ages. Your guide will lead you through the vibrant, bustling souks filled with the aroma of spices, handmade carpets, and shining copper goods. You will visit the outer gates of the majestic Royal Palace to admire its intricate golden brass doors, and wander through the historic Mellah (the ancient Jewish Quarter).
Deep inside the Medina, you will stand before the stunning architecture of the Bou Inania Madrasa and look inside the historic Al-Qarawiyyin University, recognized by UNESCO as the oldest continuously operating university in the world. After breakfast at your Riad, we will depart from Fes and head northwest toward the Rif Mountains. Our first stop of the day will be at the fascinating UNESCO World Heritage site of Volubilis. Here, you will take a guided walk through the most well-preserved ancient Roman ruins in North Africa. You will marvel at the grand triumphal arches, the ancient basilica, and the incredibly detailed, colorful mosaic floors that still remain intact, telling stories of Roman mythology and history.
After discovering this archaeological treasure, we will continue our scenic drive through rolling green hills and olive groves, climbing higher into the Rif mountain range. By afternoon, the striking blue-washed buildings of Chefchaouen will come into view, nestled between two mountain peaks. After checking into your cozy Riad inside the blue city, the rest of the day is yours to explore at your own leisure. You can wander through the calm, dreamy streets, photograph the famous painted steps, or sit at a rooftop cafe in Outa el-Hammam square to watch the town come alive as the sun sets over the Spanish Mosque
Wake up to the peaceful atmosphere of Chefchaouen. After a traditional northern Moroccan breakfast on your Riad’s terrace, you will have a free morning to fully immerse yourself in the Blue Pearl. Because the town is small and very safe, it is perfect for independent exploration. Walk through the silk and wool weaving quarters, shop for unique local handicrafts like goat cheese and hand-woven blankets, or capture those perfect, quiet photos of the blue alleys before the day-trippers arrive.
Around noon, we will meet back at the Riad to pack your luggage. Depending on your travel plans and flight details, your private driver will transfer you comfortably through the beautiful northern countryside to your final destination.
